Save on your electric bill with help from the utility company
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) This program is offered through the Federal Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and it provides two basic types of services. The program provides weatherization services, and it also provides direct financial assistance to help consumers with heating and/or cooling costs. Help is primarily eligible to lower income households. Help is giving through local governmental and nonprofit organizations.
Weatherization services provided can include additional floor and attic insulation, help with caulking, furnace and appliance repaid and replacement, and a variety of other services.
Extended or Balanced Payment Plans
Many gas and electric companies offer extended payment plans. These plans allow consumers to make affordable, “balanced” payments and maintain utility service. For example, if your total annual electric bill is $1200 per year, a balanced payment plan will allow you to pay a flat fee of $100 per month, rather than you having to pay a higher amount in the wintertime or summer.
